An wonderful opportunity has arisen for an experienced, proactive & highly motivated Catering General Manager to oversee an expansive catering operation in a highly regarded academic institution; responsible for the day-to-day operation of the venues catering services.

With a passion for delicious food and engaging service, the Catering General Manager will work closely with the Executive Chef and wider management team to ensure a high quality, fresh, nutritious and seasonal food offer is provided to students, staff and visitors.

Suitable candidates will embrace current food trends, bringing innovative culinary ideas to the table whilst seeking continuous operational improvement in the catering department.

In addition to the day to day catering operation, the Catering General Manager will be responsible for a full calendar of hospitality events, ranging from seasonal one day events and society meetings to banquet style dinners and a host of other functions. The role of the Catering General Manager in this context is to liaise closely with the Hospitality Operations Manager in the timely delivery of all food and beverages to these events.

Flexibility to support a range of requests and requirements is essential. The Catering General Manager will be expected to be friendly, compassionate and professional in all of their dealings with the students, visitors and staff.

The Catering General Manager also plays a significant role in maintaining kitchen standards to comply with legislation, managing the functionality and safety of kitchen equipment and addressing all health & safety issues.

Procurement and supply chain management is another key part of the role, developing relationships with local supply to procure the best quality, seasonal produce with minimal environmental impact.

Candidate experience, skills & qualities

Qualifications and Skills

  • Considerable experience in a managerial role within a high volume catering or similar environment;

  • Sound financial awareness;

  • Strong awareness of and adherence to Food Hygiene and Health & Safety Regulations;

  • Good all round knowledge of all areas within a catering department.

  • Excellent organisational skills;

  • Strong leadership qualities to embrace, engage and influence others in leading on new ideas and change and to deliver a first class catering and service provision;

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, clients and staff;

  • Ability to work well under pressure.
