Join the vibrant team at a young person's retreat where you will play a crucial role in delivering nutritious and exciting meals for up to 600 children and staff daily. We are seeking an energetic and creative Assistant Chef who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic kitchen environment. This role offers an opportunity to develop your culinary skills while making a positive impact on the daily lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities
 
  • Kitchen Operations: Help manage high-volume food production with precision and efficiency, maintaining organization and cleanliness at all times.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all dishes meet the highest standards of quality and presentation, paying close attention to taste, appearance, and portion sizes.
  • Food Safety & Hygiene: Adhere to strict health and safety regulations, ensuring that all food preparation and storage practices meet local health codes.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the kitchen team, supporting training initiatives and sharing best practices to maintain a cohesive and positive work environment.
  • Inventory & Waste Management: Assist with stock control, proper storage, and minimizing food waste through efficient practices.
  • Food Preparation & Production: Assist the Head Chef in preparing, cooking, and presenting a wide range of meals that cater to diverse dietary needs and preferences.
  • Menu Support: Collaborate in planning seasonal menus, ensuring variety, nutritional balance, and appeal to a young audience.
What we are looking for:
  • Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene standards, and sanitation protocols.
  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for cooking and a desire to inspire young people through food.
  • You will have experience cooking for large amounts of people 
  • You will have a DBS or willing to get a DBS
